A very unique situation presented itself at the Yale School of Nursing. How to waterproof metal screen under complicated HVAC equipment while providing a new walkable surface?
The answer is a fully reinforced, low odor ALSAN RS 260 LO PMA (polymethacrylate) System with a slip resistant surfacing layer (ALSAN RS 290 Textured Finish).
Yale University is one of the most respected institutions of higher learning in the entire world. Founded in 1701, this Ivy League school is the nations third oldest undergraduate institution.
The Yale School of Nursing was founded in 1923 and is the oldest school within a university to prepare nurses under an educational rather than an apprenticeship program. Today, the Yale School of Nursing is ranked seventh among “Americas Best Graduate Schools of Nursing” by the U.S. News and World Report magazine. The institution has cultivated a reputation for excellence in teaching, research and clinical practice.
This project called for a long lasting waterproofing solution to be placed over metal screens located under a complicated series of HVAC equipment. SOPREMA’s fully reinforced, low odor ALSAN RS 260 LO System was utilized with an additional slip resistant finish coat to provide a walk able surface for equipment servicing. A series of plywood boards were mechanically attached to the existing metal screens followed by the ALSAN RS System. It was critical that the waterproofing system chosen be low odor due to the proximity to the HVAC equipment. Also of importance was the ability for the system to be installed during early spring with widely varying outdoor air temperatures. SOPREMA’s ALSAN RS System was the ideal choice featuring advanced PMA (polymethacrylate) technology that requires no flames, hot kettles or Hazmat restrictions while providing a superior, 20 year guaranteed waterproofing system.
