The fully reinforced, low odor ALSAN RS 260 LO system membrane included vapor barrier, tapered insulation, roofing board and the advanced PMA technology found only in SOPREMA’s ALSAN RS line of products. The green roof component utilizes a tray system.

Located on Seventh Avenue at 27th Street in New York City, the world famous Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is a selective college of art and design, business and technology. Operated by the State University of New York, the school is widely considered one of the five best fashion colleges in the world.

The ALSAN RS system features dramatically fast cure times that can accommodate tight construction schedules while providing durable applications that are warranted for up to 20 years with an expected lifespan of over 30 years.  With ALSAN RS, Dymitri Enterprises, the building contractor, was able to install the system in the most difficult urban setting, without a heat source, in temperatures below freezing, while achieving a cure time of just minutes.

The Fashion Institute of Technology needed a new roof on Building E in the dead of winter. In addition they wanted a low odor, green solution. The answer: SOPREMA’s advanced ALSAN RS 260 LO PMA (polymethacrylate) liquid membrane system. The SOPREMA system was preferred by the contractor for its low temperature application window. The system may be applied in temperatures well below freezing, far lower than other competitors 50°F (10°C).  With school being in session, it was also necessary to utilize a low odor roofing solution. Students were never inconvenienced and life went on as normal while the ALSAN RS 260 LO system was being installed in freezing conditions.

The vegetated roof component of this project utilizes a tray system installed over SOPREMA drainage mat (SOPRADRAIN ECO-2 WR).  Pavers and gravel stone were used for perimeter buffers and walkways complete the attractive rooftop garden.
