Cost Accountant
Kansas City, MO

Personal Background

I grew up in Kansas City, KS where I attended Sumner Academy of Arts and Science. After graduating Summa Cum Laude, I attended Baker University where I received my BS degree in Accounting. I have been married for almost 35 years and have two grown sons and a daughter-in-law. I have always enjoyed volunteering. Some of my volunteering endeavors include running a charity golf tournament, tutoring, being the president of the PTA, being a school board member at both the elementary and high school levels, serving on the finance council at my church, and going on mission trips to New Orleans to help rebuild homes after Hurricane Katrina.

Career Background

I have over 24 years of accounting experience; 20 of these are in cost accounting. I started my career in public accounting before moving into the banking industry as an internal auditor. I discovered my love of cost accounting when I went to work at Lake City Army Ammunition plant, which is a government-owned, contractor-operated facility that produces small arms ammunition for the government. I worked there for nine years until I decided to stay home with my children. During the years that I was home, I received my teaching certification and became a middle school math and science teacher at the same school that my children attended. I decided to return to the accounting field in 2011 and re-started my career with Derbigum, now Performance Roof Systems, in May of 2015. During my time here, I have become familiar with many areas of the company and often assist collaborators in other departments.

Current Job Responsibilities

As a Cost Accountant, my primary responsibility is to update and maintain standard costs for all items, for both SOPREMA and PRS. I work with the National Sales Manager to develop the National Price Lists and affiliate price lists for PRS. I have been responsible for organizing the month-end and year-end inventories, along with performing the physical reconciliation. I assist with month-end close by reconciling the inventory accounts and reviewing various general ledger accounts. I am also responsible for Independent Sales Agents and internal sales commissions for PRS, along with customer rebates. In addition, I prepare and submit the monthly and quarterly SPRI and ARMA industry reports.
