Columbia University Medical Center – New York, New York

The Columbia University Medical Center, located in Northern Manhattan, spans a 20-acre campus and overlooks the Hudson River. The medical center is known for its global leadership in patient care, scientific research and health and medical education. Housing four separate colleges including, the College of Physicians and Surgeons, the College of Dental Medicine, the Mailman School of Public Health, and the School of Nursing, students have various programs to choose from. Many students in these programs choose to participate in international study abroad programs to expand their knowledge.

When adding a new building to the Columbia University Medical Center campus, a top priority was that all products were available for a single source manufacturer that offered one warranty for the entire project. That is where SOPREMA came in. SOPREMA products were used for the below grade waterproofing, the 2-ply SBS-modified bitumen system with PMMA flashing and for the vegetated roof. The project was designed to meet FM codes and is a LEED certified project. To complete the modern and contemporary design, the building includes an intensive vegetated roof system that features trees, turf perennials and grasses.
