WADSWORTH, Ohio (Nov. 25, 2020) — Undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in architecture, engineering, construction management or a similar field at an accredited four-year college or university can now submit their applications for the annual SOPREMA scholarship program. Four $5,000 awards are available for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Established in 2016, SOPREMA introduced its scholarship program to invest in the continued success and growth of the building envelope industry with a commitment to sustaining its next generation.
William Welch, a 2020 recipient of the SOPREMA scholarship, said winning “it has helped to calm many very real concerns I had about financially making it through this tumultuous time.”
He added, “As a non-traditional student, I have no one to turn to for support with my tuition and my education. I’m very grateful that SOPREMA was there to help me, and I have best wishes for whoever is lucky enough to win in the coming year!”
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants to the SOPREMA Scholarship Program must be:
- High school seniors or graduates or current postsecondary undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or a similar field.*
*Similar field must apply to those seeking a career related to the building envelope (i.e. roofing, wall systems, below-grade waterproofing, etc.). Exceptions will be approved by SOPREMA.
- Planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited four-year college or university for the entire 2021-2022 academic year.
- SOPREMA employees and their family members are ineligible.
AWARDS
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 award. SOPREMA will award up to four (4) scholarships nationwide. Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. Awards are for undergraduate and graduate study.
SELECTION
Scholarship recipients are selected based on:
- academic record.
- demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities honors.
- work experience.
- an essay.
- an online recommendation.
Financial need is not considered. The selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America, not SOPREMA.
NOTIFICATION
Applicants are notified of their awards in mid-May. Not all applicants to the program are selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of SOPREMA. Payments are made in one installment in early August.
