Bellevue, the nations oldest medical center, is protected by SOPREMA’s ALSAN RS PMA liquid membrane technology. In the dead of winter, with strict project parameters, SOPREMA’s ALSAN RS created an impenetrable liquid waterproofing membrane guaranteed to be waterproof for 20 years with a life expectancy of 25 to 30 years.

New York City’s Bellevue Hospital Center is the oldest medical facility in the nation. Founded in 1736, the hospital, most commonly known as “Bellevue”, instituted the nations first maternity ward, city wide sanitation code and founded the first nursing school in the country.  The flagship of New York City’s Health and Hospitals Corporation, Bellevue is open to patience of all backgrounds irrespective of their ability to pay.  Following the tragic events of 9/11, the critical care Bellevue provided made the center a perfect choice to develop the World Trade Center Treatment Center designed to aid those affected, both physically and mentally, by the event of 9/11.

SOPREMA was tasked with providing a long lasting waterproofing solution in a difficult healthcare environment. No patient or staff interruptions would be tolerated. SOPREMA’s fully reinforced, low odor ALSAN RS 260 LO Terrace/Balcony Deck System was utilized. This system features ALSAN RS 276 primer, ALSAN RS 260 LO with ALSAN RS Fleece, ALSAN RS 263 LO Self-Leveling Mortar, #0 quartz silica aggregate and an owner chosen pebble grey ALSAN RS 288 topcoat finish. ALSAN RS 288 Finish was also used to create markings and lines for the rooftop basketball court. The entire system was installed with no disruption to the hospital, with a low odor solution in freezing temperatures.  Advanced liquid waterproofing technology, such as SOPREMA’s PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) based ALSAN RS system, gives business owners and architects a cost effective solutions to difficult roofing and waterproofing projects like the Bellevue Hospital Center.

The ALSAN RS system features dramatically fast cure times that can accommodate tight construction schedules while providing durable applications that are warranted for up to 20 years with an expected lifespan of over 30 years.  With ALSAN RS the building contractor was able to install the system in the most difficult urban setting, without a heat source, in temperatures below freezing, while achieving a cure time of just minutes.
