Portland Bridge – Portland, Maine
In Maine, winters are known to be particularly harsh, especially with the occasional “Nor’easter” storm dropping tons of snow. The use of road salt is very important to ensure driver safety, but can severely deteriorate bridges. In order to combat this premature deterioration, applying waterproofing to the concrete bridge deck prior to an asphalt overlay provides protection against chloride intrusion.
Due to previous successful applications and a proven track record, the Maine DOT decided to rehabilitate an existing bridge with a reinforced SBS modified bitumen membrane. Nicom Coating Corporation selected ANTIROCK based on previous performance and to provide long term protection. For many years, several DOT’s in the Northeast have been utilizing ANTIROCK to extend the service life of highway bridges. Nicom Coating Corporation utilizes the MACADEN machine to increase production rates and provide consistent results.
